Student Council is serious

In every school there are leaders. Leaders that will help and guide their fellow students. In San Sebastian College-Recoletos Canlubang, we also have student leaders. In fact June 31 2015, a meeting de avance was held at the Mini Theatre. Students were advised to witness it. There were two partylist, the Sebastian and the Augustin. Each partylist were given a chance to explain and persuade students why they should be voted

Some platforms said was adding drinking fountains at the activity center , so that when there are activities held, there are clean water to drink. Renovating unused facilities of the school is also said. Improving the 'Recording Studio' for the Ab Communication students.

A REAL meeting de avance was expected. But it was very disaappointing that the way the candidtes speak, it is not convincing. They told to vote wisely, that everyone should choose who they think deserve the position. They want the students to choose freely. If you have the heart and passion to be a student council, DAPAT IPAGSIGAWAN MO NA IKAW ANG IBOTO KASI KARAPAT DAPAT KA. Telling the everyone ' Iboto niyo po kung sino ang nararapat' isnt this playing safe? Eagerness should be seen on the candidate speak. The way they deliver their speech, seems like running for student council is a joke. Arent they serious about it? He said 'gusto ko tropa tropa lang tayo' and someone reacted ' Sige tropa tropa tayo wala kang boto' . Stage fright is acceptable, but crying and reading the 3 sentence speech is a no no. If you faced more people, would crying still acceptable? In public speaking , handling of emotion is a must. Their platforms are very easy, as long us there is a budget. But then, where will they get the budget? Fund raising? school? Of course the school will only have budget when there are students enrolled, but there are only approximately 400 students enrolled in this Academic Year. In short, there is no budget. They did not even include the improvement of the marketing strategy of Baste in their platforms.

According to the survey held, it was disappointing that the most positive comment received was 'okay lang'. 15 people were asked what can they say about the platforms of the both partylist. Unfortunately, almost all said that their platforms are not visible. They said that it would take a lot of budget. And the platforms they raised seems like it is not prepared. It is also said that it is not specific and well said. It is also not interesting for them, and some did not even listen. It is also asked if they were impressed on how the candidates speak 'parang trip trip nga lang eh' a questioned was also raised why a candidate run for president if He is just second year college. The formality of the program is also questioned.  Regarding the recording studio they said that it is for the AB COMM STUDENTS, so how about the other courses? Isn't it unfair?

The day after the meeting the voting was held. The students are oblidged to vote. Not voting is equivalent to absent. It is also asked in the interview how the students voted, 'Kung sino maikli apelyido ayon ang ibinoto ko' ' di ko mga kilala eh'. There is also an incident wherein a student wrote the name of James Reid since he/she dont know anyone

Whoever may won the position in the student council, hopefully they will do their very best . It is not an easy task. It take responsibilty , courge and discipline. A piece of advice running for student council is not a joke. Next time learn not to put jokes on serious matters. And hopefully the campaign period next year will be longer , for students to know their fture leaders. Last, focus on the marketing strategy of the school. Encourage students to enroll in San Sebastian. Make good strategies. Plan events, invite other schools , specially those who do not know that there is baste in Canlubang, and those who are not grade 11 and 12 ready. Some may be interested to enroll next school year. If there are a lot of students, there will be more alot of budget, and everything will fall into its place...atleast they can say KAME ANG NAGPARAME NG TAO SA BASTE
